Labeled as the world's most diversified sport, bowling offers recreational activity for people of all ages.
Children and adults of all skill levels can learn to play easily and enjoy a recreational, competitive and social activity.
AMF American Lanes located at 885 Flat Shoals Road, Conyers, has been in business for more than 20 years.
Established in the mid-1980s, the once "ma and pa" bowling alley has been grown into a fun family environment.
With 32 lanes for bowling, a full arcade, snack bar and The Silhouette Lounge, a full-service bar, American Lanes has something to offer everyone.
Open everyday Sunday through Saturday, American Lanes has a special offer for each day of the week.
Extreme kids days are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; for only $9.60, the bowling alley gives kids the opportunity to experience the lights and music the adults receive. The price includes three games of bowling and shoe rentals.
Offered on Friday and Saturday nights for $17, AMF Extreme Bowling includes shoes and all the bowling you can fit in between 9 p.m. and midnight.
During the extreme bowling hours the lights are off, and the music and lasers are on.
On Sunday, from 8 p.m. to close, the bowling alley promotes a deal called dollar-mania. You pay a $5 cover charge and certain items, such as shoes, hotdogs and 10-ounce draft beers, only cost a dollar.
AMF American Lanes also will host both birthday and corporate parties. Prices fluctuate depending on the size of the party.
In the midst of all the promotions and deals being offered, manager Janelle Shores helps the less fortunate bowl, offering discount deals to the men's and women's shelters of Conyers and children's programs like Kidz Net. The bowling alley allows these groups to participate at discount rates.
"We try and give them an opportunity to get out and do something," said assistant manager Jill Burgdorf.
The bowling alley has formed a Breast Cancer Awareness League. Members can bowl anytime except Fridays and Saturdays after 5 p.m. to raise breast cancer awareness.
The "flex-style league" allows you to bowl at your convenience for $18 per week, with a portion of the league's fee being donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Regular prices on non-promotional days before 5 p.m. are $3.50 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children under 12 per game.
During the prime hours after 5 p.m., the cost is $5 per adult and $4.50 for senior citizens and children under 12.
The cost of shoes is $4 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children under 12 at all times.
The bowling alley hosts special events like karaoke on Fridays from 8 p.m. to close; American Lanes tries to have something for everyone.
"We try to cater to all ages," said Burgdorf. "We have all sorts of activities, and when it comes to bowling everyone can do it. We have bumpers for the kids, with small balls, and ramps if they need it."
