COVINGTON, Ga. — The Social Circle Lady Redskins showed off their offensive prowess Tuesday with a 17-2 scrimmage win over the Alcovy Lady Tigers on the road.
Tuesday’s matchup was slated to be each team’s first official game of the season.
While the Lady Redskins made the trip down Highway 36 to Alcovy, the umpires did not.
This resulted in the game being changed into a scrimmage matchup in order for both teams to still get their reps and practice in.
Alcovy head coach Miranda Lamb and Social Circle head coach Chris Davis served as the umpires for the matchup when their respective teams were in the field.
From the first inning onward, the Lady Redskins bats were hot.
After loading the bases with no outs, Social Circle pushed two runners across on a wild pitch from CeCe Williams. A third run came home on an error to put the Lady Redskins ahead 3-0.
Following a Kaitlyn Williams double, CeCe drove her home on a single to limit the deficit to 3-1.
Following a scoreless second inning from both squads, Social Circle erupted for a six-run third frame.
In the inning, hits from Laura-Kate Tully, Abigail Long, Annika Lott and Addyson Stracner moved the lead to 9-1 for the Lady Redskins.
Alcovy scored its second and final run of the contest in the fourth inning when Kassidy Scott drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt.
A triple and a double back-to-back from Stracner and Adasyn Brown extended the Social Circle lead to 12-2 in the fifth frame.
Ultimately, the Lady Redskins closed the game out with four consecutive run-scoring at-bats in the sixth inning.
The scoring started when Anniston Jenkins scored on a wild pitch.
Then, back-to-back hits from Aubrey Digby and Tully scored two more runs. A groundout from Emmerson Davis scored Social Cricle’s final run of the contest to earn the 17-2 win.
By game’s end, multiple Lady Redskins — Lott, Jenkins, Stracner, Brown and Tully — had two-hit games.
Emily Turner and Lexi Moore shared the pitching duties for Davis in the scrimmage.
Turner went three innings while Moore pitched the final two frames. The two combined to strike out six Alcovy batters and only allowed two earned runs.
Alcovy will get a couple days off before heading to Prince Avenue to face both the Lady Wolverines and the Union County Lady Panthers on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The Lady Redskins will have a quick turnaround as they go back home to face another Newton County team — the Newton Rams — on Wednesday, August 7.
