ROME, Ga. — With a large team to represent, the Social Circle Redskins had a slew of finalists at the Class A-Division I track and field championships this past weekend.
Senior Jada Hyman fell just shy of claiming her fourth consecutive state title as she finished in second place in the girls’ 400-meter with a time of 57.77.
Hyman also claimed third place in the girls’ 200-meter with a time of 26.44.
After a long Redskins career on the track, head coach Tim Kemp spoke about the impact and legacy that Hyman leaves with the program
“I cannot express in words how proud I am of this young lady and what she has accomplished over the years as an athlete, but more importantly the intelligent young lady she has become on and off the field, court and track,” Kemp said. “She leaves a legacy at Social Circle High that sets a standard.”
The Lady Redskins relay team — Hyman, Brielle Price, Avah Beckles and Sophia Fontenot — earned second place in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:47.43.
Price, Hyman, Fontenot and Taylor Key ran a time of 4:15.73 in the 4x400-meter relay to earn third place.
Fontenot finished behind Hyman in the 200-meter in eighth place with a time of 27.86 as well as a ninth place finish in the girls’ long jump(16-3.5). Price claimed 10th place in the 400-meter with a time of 1:02.15.
On the boys side, Cornelius CJ Scott and Derrick White finished as state runners-up.
Scott rana time of 10.98 in the boys’ 100-meter dash to earn second place. Scott also claimed second place in the 400-meter with a time of 49.86.
White earned second in the boys’ long jump with a score of 22-0.5.
In the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, Quenton Ervin claimed third place with a time of 40.36. Additionally, Ervin earned third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.84.
Antonio Bailey took home sixth place in the boys’ 200-meter with a time of 23.46.
White, Ervin, Scott and AJ Bailey combined to finish in third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:28.20.
White, Ervin, Jaylen Victor and Deven Usand finished in fifth place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.03.
As a whole, the Redskins’ boys team finished in third place with a combined score of 53.
With a strong finish, Kemp is excited about what the future holds for his program.
“Most of our young men are only sophomores so we are excited about the future of track & field at Social Circle High School,” Kemp said.
