SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. — On Friday, April 25, the Redskins hosted their annual Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet as they celebrated the achievements of many of the program’s best.

The school inducted Marquis Williams and Dr. John T. Burks into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Williams graduated from Social Circle in 2007 and was a three-sport athlete during his time as a Redskin, playing in football, basketball and track and field.

On the gridiron, Williams helped lead Social Circle to its first region championship in school history.

Williams’ efforts included a career-high 309 rushing yards against Commerce in a 31-21 win. Williams was awarded as the Region 8-A Offensive Player of the Year.

The success also translated onto track, too. Williams won numerous track and field accolades, which included a state runner-up finish in the high jump and a fourth place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 2007.

After graduation, Williams committed to play football at Lambuth University, where he was the team’s leading scorer.

Burks served as the Superintendent of Social Circle City Schools from 1976 to 1994.

Burks helped establish the school’s first football and band programs. He was instrumental in the creation of the football stadium and the hiring of the first coaching staff.

Under Burks, the school built a new gymnasium for the basketball program.

When the current Social Circle athletic complex was built, his legacy continued as the school’s baseball field was named Burks Field in 2018.

Burks was an active member in the community, serving in the Social Circle Rotary Club as well as a member of First Baptist Church Social Circle.

Along with Williams and Burks, the school recognized three more individuals for their service and dedication to the athletic program. The school recognized and awarded Theodoris Gibbs, Regina Barrett and Jim Jones.
