The Region 2-AAAAAA picture became a little clearer this week, as Lovejoy remained alone at the top of the region with a Friday night victory over the Newton Rams.
Three teams sit with above .500 records in region play.
The Wildcats have a slim lead over the Alcovy Tigers, but have yet to be beaten in region play.
Lovejoy moved to 5-0 in region play, and 8-1 overall, with a 56-23 win over Newton on the Rams' homecoming night. The win gives the Wildcats a 1.5-game lead over the Tigers. The Wildcats are off this week on a bye week.
Alcovy held onto its second-place league spot with a Thursday night victory over Druid Hills. The Tigers ran over the Red Devils 33-6, upping its region record to 3-1 overall.
The Tigers have won league games over the Red Devils and Morrow after falling to Newton on Oct. 4.
Luella joins the Wildcats and the Tigers as the third team in the region with a winning record in league play.
The Lions defeated Morrow 43-22 on the road Friday night to get above .500 in region play after falling to Lovejoy last week.
Luella has just one final region game left against Newton this week.
The Rockdale County Bulldogs were off this past week on a bye week.
The Bulldogs sit in the middle of the region, along with the Rams, but have a chance to shake-up the region standings this week at home against Alcovy.
The Tigers will enter Reid Stadium this week with a chance to separate themselves from the rest of the region and set-up a final-week showdown with the Wildcats for the regular season region championship.
Druid Hills and Morrow both dropped contests this past week to remain winless in region play.
The Red Devils and Mustangs will battle this week, giving one of the two programs an opportunity to get its first region win of the season.
