In sports, fans believe that winning cures all.

The Newton Rams are hoping they have the prescription for winning this week after taking a dose of Eastside last Friday.

Newton head coach Terrance Banks said that the Rams have rebounded well after a deflating rivalry loss to the Eagles a week ago and that his program has put the tough pill they swallowed behind them for now.

The Rams square off tonight against Lowndes on the road, traveling to Martin Stadium to take on the No. 4 ranked Vikings.

After the deflating loss to the Eagles, Banks sees a more resolute team this week.

"I reminded the kids this week to focus on what’s important now," Banks said. "The Eastside game is an important game, but is it important to us now? The only thing important to my guys and this team now is the No. 4 team in the state that we face this week in Lowndes. We have to be prepared for that."

Lowndes opened the season with a 42-2 win over Luella, holding the Lions to just 61 yards of total offense.

While the Rams marched their way to almost 400 yards of offense against Eastside, Banks knows his hands will be full against the Vikings.

"They are coming to get you on defense and on offense they are very confident," Banks said.  "They know what they want to do and they want to run you over.

"They brought a lot of guys back along the offensive line and they have plenty of good players at the skill positions," he said. "They're basically telling you that, 'Hey this is who we are, do something about it.'"

Banks said that the key to the offensive game plan this week will be to spread the Lowndes' defense out and create favorable one-on-one matchups.

"We have to impose our will defensively and on offense we have to spread them out," he said. "We're going to go for the match-ups that we like and find ways to battle that way."

The Newton offense had no problem finding those match-ups against the Eagles last week, as quarterback Romario Johnson threw for 222 yards and two scores in his debut.

"Any time you can have a sophomore complete 50 percent of his passes and not throw an interception, it's a good thing," Banks said. "The entire team showed no quit and that's the kind of character we expect from them. They get the message that they have to play 48 minutes of football and they're ready to show what Newton football has to offer."

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
