CARROLLTON, Ga. — In what proved to be a successful day for the Newton track and field teams, the Rams found themselves inside the top five in multiple events.
However, none were more impactful than that of the boys’ 4x200-meter relay team that captured first place.
The team — Roman Brown, Derrick Miller, Maliq Washington and Cole Strother — claimed first place with a time of 1:25.77
In the boys’ 4x400-meter relay, the team claimed third place with a time of 3:19.51. The 4x400 team consisted of Brown, Strother, Kayden Allen and Marshal Haynes.
Strother finished just shy of another state title as the senior placed second in the boys’ 400-meter with a time of 46.92.
Miller claimed sixth in the boys’ 200-meter with a time of 21.93.
In the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, Kingston Banks ran a time of 39.01 to earn fifth place.
On the Lady Rams’ side, the team showed a lot of success in the relay events.
A quartet of Jayda Duplessis, Erin Sellers, Mya Edwards and Kennedi Zachary ran 1:41.64 to earn fourth place in the girls’ 4x200-meter relay.
Duplessis and Edwards combined with Zaikerriya Smith and Alaysha Holsey to earn fifth place in the girls’ 4x400 relay.
The Lady Rams also took home eighth place in the 4x800(9:47.07) and ninth place in the 4x100(47.68) relay.
Zachary claimed sixth place in the girls’ triple jump with a score of 38-5.5. Holsey earned eleventh place in the girls’ 800-meter run(2:21.23).
