Both squads also placed one additional player on the all-state roster. For the boys, it was senior forward Dre Butler, and on the girls’ side, senior guard Jurnee Smith.

Hagans averaged double-doubles for the Rams in points and assists, while Butler was the team's second leading scorer. The tandem helped Newton make it to the Class AAAAAAA Final Four despite Hagans being the team’s only returning starter from last season.

As for Chatman and Smith, the backcourt tandem helped lead the Lady Rams to their first state championship game appearance since 1963. Both guards have been the Rams’ leading scorers over the past two seasons.

Butler was also named to the GACA North Boys All-Star team, while Chatman was named a GACA North Girls All-Star.
