The Newton boys basketball team keeps on grabbing national accolades.

After Monday’s 96-75 win against Spartanburg Day — the second victory against Zion Williamson and company in the last three weeks — Newton (18-0, 4-0 in Region 8-AAAAAAA) is finding love in various national polls.

The Rams are up five spots in the USA Today Top 25 poll from No. 21 to No. 16.

Meanwhile, in the MaxPreps High School Top 25, sponsored by the Army National Guard, Newton cracked the rankings for the first time at No. 12. Potential Class AAAAAAA state tournament opponent McEachern occupies the seventh spot in the MaxPreps rankings, but are unranked in the USA Today poll.

Newton and McEachern are ranked Nos. 1 and 2 respectively in Class AAAAAAA according to Score Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal Constitution and Georgia high school hoops guru Kyle Sandy’s weekly top 10 poll.

Newton is hosting a pair of region games this week: Tuesday against rival Rockdale and Friday night against South Gwinnett.
