Allen expects success for Rams

Current Newton Rams head coach Cortez Allen will not return next season to coach the school’s football program, but he feels good for the program’s future.

“I expect them to compete for a region championship and I wish them all nothing but the best and success” Allen said.

Allen says that the players have handled the transition really well and have just continued to work hard on the field.

“I’m leaving the program better off than when I took it over” Allen said. Only three coaches who were on Allen’s coaching staff last season will remain with Newton next season. Those coaches are Andre Byrd, Tony Collins, and Everyn Williams.

“They’re the only ones staying. The offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, offensive line coach, defensive line coach, and running backs coach, they’re all going with me” Allen said.

Allen compiled a 17-14 record with the Rams and last season led the Rams to the playoffs. Allen coached the Rams form 2011-2012.

Allen’s successor at head coach will be Terrance Banks. This will be Bank’s first ever head coaching job.
