For a second straight year, swimmers from the Covington YMCA can call themselves the best in the area. The Covington Y Piranhas topped the six-team meet and captured the Rockdale swim league championship for the second time in as many years.

The Piranhas, comprised of 102 local swimmers, got off to a fast start in the morning session. The 10 and under age group swam circles around the competition and built a 200-point lead over second place Deer Run. The older 11 and up age groups swam in the afternoon with the Y swimmers continuing to score points by finishing in the top eight in their events.

Went the water settled at the end of the meet, the Covington Y finished ahead of Deer Run and third place Brentwood who took second and third respectively.

Several swimmers turned in stellar individual performances including Colton Patterson and Kaden Farley who finished first in the 5 & 6 and 7 & 8 boys groups respectively. Payton Morrison and Liam Amman placed second in those same groups and Nick Mitchell placed third in the 7 & 8 group. Ella King placed third in the 5 & 6 year old girls group while Emma Kate Leach and Emerald Gibbs took third in the 7 & 8 and 9 & 10 girls groups.

In the afternoon session, Joey Ellwanger and Jack Mitchell took first and second in the boys 15 & over age group while Dylan Weathersby placed third in the 13 & 14 age group.

The Rockdale swim league continues to grow. This year's meet saw more than 400 swimmers and six teams.
