The Newton County Recreation Commission’s baseball and softball seasons are wrapping up, but it’s not time to put the bats and balls away just yet.

Around a dozen NCRC All-Star teams are set to participate in tournaments starting with the 7- and 8-year-old Pee-Wee league, broken into two teams — Newton National and Newton American — beginning this weekend.

The Newton National team is made up of 12 players, including Alec Austin, Will Banks, David Bishop, Ethan Caldwell, Connor Coursey, Jaxon Dean, Hunter Denney, Paul Kendall, Ty Lemaster, Jackson McIntyre, Garret Payne and Joshua Tamasi.

Jackson Allen, Lucas Ballard, Joshua Bates, Jaylen Brown, Rhett Collins, Parker Dial, Jackson Henry, Damarco Lackey, Brady Marbut, Aiden McGiboney, Fred Smith and Andre Willams are on the Newton American team.

Both teams will be participating in a tournament at Bogart Sports Complex in Oconee starting today. Newton National will face Walton Red at 8 p.m., while Newton American takes on Oconee Red simultaneously on a different field.

Following this weekend’s tournament, both teams will participate in a training tournament in Covington with games beginning at 10 a.m., June 15.

Pee-Wee sectionals in Athens begin at the same time, followed by the state tournament June 22 in Macon.
