Local youth swimmers paddle their way to a runner-up finish at the Rockdale Swimming Championships

The Covington YMCA Piranhas wrapped up their summer swimming season by taking second place at the Rockdale Swimming League championship in June.

After taking the championship in 2008, the Piranhas finished in the runner-up position at the six-team meet and compiled a 3-2 record.

Several swimmers took home individual awards from the meet. Emma Kate Leach took first place High Point (6 & under girls) while Nick Mitchell took third in the same age group for boys. Heather Stanley took first in the 11-12 girls bracket with teammate Kit King on her heels with a second place finish. Joey Ellwanger and Jack Mitchell took co-High Point championships in the 13-14 boys division while Matt Mitchell grabbed second . Katie Cuson took home third place in the 15-18 girls division while Colby Chandler scored a third place finish in the 11-12 boys division.
