Baseball teams around the county have been pretty successful as of late. You can add the Pee Wee (7-8 year-old) American Division All Star Team to the list as the latest team from the county to win big. The Newton County All-Stars captured the state championship Saturday at Suwannee, capping a perfect 7-0 run through the Dixie Youth State Tournament.
"They all did exceptionally well," head coach Ken Harper said. "It was a total team effort. I’m proud of all 12 of them."
Newton County defeated Buford 13-4 on Friday before taking the second of the three-game series Saturday by the score of 13-2.
The Newton County All-Stars set several records along the way. They scored the most runs in the tournaments history, amassed the strikeouts over the seven games and set a single-game record for home runs with five.
