Closing in on a Miracle

Newton County's Miracle League field is closer to becoming a reality.

Evidence of the arrival of the future field, which will accomodate some of the county's 2,700 mentally and/or physically challenged children, will be prominent throughout the upcoming month due to various events and fundraisers.

The "Let's Make a Miracle" Car and Bike Show will be Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Turner Lake Complex.

Car and bike registration is $20 day of the show with free admission to spectators.

The car show will coorespond with the first day of the Dixie Boys World Series at City Pond Park. The Miracle League will be offering 50/50 raffle tickets during each games thoughout the four-day event.

The end of August will bring another baseball tournament to City Pond Park, with this one bringing in funds for the Miracle League.

The Miracle League Classic Open Baseball Tournament is for ages 8-14 from Aug. 24-26.

Cost is $350 per team ($325 if received by Aug. 17 with registration found at www.newtonrecreation.com or by calling (770) 786-4373 ex. 54. Proceeds will benefit the construction of the Miracle League Baseball Complex.

Groundbreaking for the Miracle League Complex at City Pond park will occur Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m. with construction to follow in September by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
