Oxford tennis finishes 7th in nationals

Emory at Oxford's mens' tennis team finished seventh in the NJCAA Division III national tournament held at Collin County Community College in Plano Texas on Friday.

The Eagles were just out of the top five behind SUNY-Adirondak. Gloucester Community College was the national champion followed by Community College of Rhode Island and Nassau Community College. Mercer County and Onandaga Community College rounded out the top five.

Oxford was represented by Gustavo Linde at No. 1 singles, Alex Day in No. 2, Zac Hersman at No. 3, Nick Moore at No. 4, Michael Lem at No. 5 and Martin Porterfield at No. 6. Hersman and Linde paired up for No. 1 doubles, Day and Moore were No. 2 doubles and Lem and Porterfield were No. 3 doubles.

The Oxford mens' tennis team has three national championships, coming in 2006, 2007 and 2009. The womens' team, also led by mens' coach Brandon Feldman, won the national title in 2011.

Oxford soccer schedule announced
Oxford College Athletics recently released the women's soccer 2012 schedule. The Lady Eagles will play 16 matches, 8 home and 8 away.

Soccer preseason kicks off before students return to the Oxford College campus. Four exhibition scrimmages get things started beginning August 17. The Eagles first official match is an away contest on August 26 versus Andrew College.
