Editor’s note: In the previous posting of this article, the Tigers Chris Martin was credited for both goals. It was brought to our attention by a Tigers fan and confirmed by head coach Brian Johnson that Martin was not the scorer of the second goal. We regretfully apologize for this mistake and want to make sure to give Jayden Quamina the proper credit for his role in the outcome of this match.
COVINGTON, Ga – The Alcovy Tigers boys soccer team prevailed
2-1 over the Heritage Patriots in a massive upset victory that ended with a
late-minute goal.
A late equalizing penalty kick by the Patriots made it seem that this match would stay knotted up at one goal a-piece. However, a crucial late-minute goal came from sophomore Jayden Quamina and helped push the Tigers over the Patriots with just a measly 49 seconds left to play in the match
This vital goal helped lead the Tigers to their first region victory of the season and also allowed the Tigers to get a little revenge. In the two teams most recent meeting, The Patriots bested the Tigers by a score of 5-2.
The Patriots have defeated the Tigers in their last five meetings, but a win like this could mean the tide is turning for the Tigers under head coach Brian Johnson’s direction.
This win also snaps a four-game skid by the Tigers and they will look to keep that momentum rolling in the right direction for their next match, which is on the road against the Greenbrier Wolfpack (8-2,6-2) on Tuesday.
