Eastside seniors shine in 10-0 win

Senior night was a successful one for the Eastside girls’ soccer team, with all four of the Lady Eagles seniors scoring in a 10-0 time-shortened victory against Mount Zion Thursday night.

The scoring started early for Eastside when senior Reilley Walker finding the net off a cross from Sydney Sellers just around two minutes into the match. Two minutes later Madison Morvik took a free kick from 28 yards out, and made it count.

Senior Hannah Alwes netted her first goal off an assist from Jessica Walden at the 32:08 mark. Senior Morgan Green converted a penalty kick after a Lady Bulldog was sent off for a red card for an intentional handball in the 6-yard box that prevented an Eastside goal with 26 minutes left in the half forcing Mount Zion to play a player down for the rest of the game.

Walker and Alwes each added their second goals to put the Lady Eagles up 6-0 17:11 until halftime. Senior Melissa Hernandez made it a clean sweep for the Lady Eagles’ seniors when she scored on a free kick from just outside the18-yard box for another handball infraction on Mount Zion with 13:09 left. Playing with a running clock due to the 7-0 lead, Alisa Still scored with 6:40 on the clock to give Eastside an 8-0 lead at the half.

The second half was shortened to 20 minutes, but it only took 5:18 for the Lady Eagles to end the match by the 10-goal rule after Malaya Yamasaki scored on a ball from Sydni Greer and Green scored her second goal off an assist from Morvik.

A total of seven different girls scored for the Lady Eagles. Keepers Savana Arwood and Jordyn Blare combined to give Eastside its seventh shutout of the season. With the win the Lady Eagles improve
to 9-4 overall and 5-4 in Region 4AAAA.

Due to Spring break, the Lady Eagles next play Wednesday, April 13 against Social Circle.
