The Eastside basketball program picked up a pair of wins at home Friday night over Greene County, with the boys team defeating the Tigers 62-46, while the girls program outlasted Greene County 64-54.
Treyvon Francis led the Eagles with 21 points, six rebounds and eight assists, while Marquise Sims joined Francis in double figures with 10 points.
Eastside head coach Gregory Freeman said the effort was the best on the defensive side of the ball he has seen from his team this season.
"It was probably our best defensive game of the year," Freeman said. "We had them under 40 before we made some substitutions. Any time you can hold a team under 40 with your starting unit, you're getting the kind of defense you want out of your team.
"I was proud of the defensive effort we put out, and I hope to see even more of it from our guys as the season progresses," he said.
Eastside outscored Greene County in all three quarters, opening up a 21-15 advantage before holding the Tigers to eight points in the second quarter.
Francis scored 11 points in the first quarter, helping the Eagles to a 37-23 halftime edge.
In the second half, Eastside again allowed 23 points over 16 minutes to the Tigers, but outscored Greene County by six in the third quarter before allowing the Tigers 10 points in the final period.
"As we move into our schedule and we hit the winter break, I just want to see more consistency," Freeman said. "We have a lot of bodies, so we're going to run a lot of guys out there and see what we can do. I want them to gain a lot of confidence."
Kejuan Robbins finished with a team-high 10 points for Greene County.
Girls win
The Eagles girls varsity basketball team also picked up a victory over Greene County, defeating the Lady Tigers by 10 at home.
Jazzmine Cook led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 23 points, while Jymara Smith and Deshantra Kelly finished in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Lady Eagles fell behind 29-26 in the first half, but scored 37 points in the second half to hold off the Lady Tigers.
Miranda Davis led Greene County with 22 points in the loss.
