Columbus awaits Lady Eagles, Lady Tigers
Columbus Alcovy Eastside

The Lady Tigers and Lady Eagles are set for their Columbus trips after each team swept Super Regionals.

After both teams won their region championships, they both finished Super Regionals with 3-0 records.

Now, it is time for Columbus, where both teams enter into the elite eight for their respective classifications.

Alcovy Tigers

The Lady Tigers finished Super Regionals with a sweep over Lakeside (Evans) and North Atlanta.

Alcovy beat Lakeside 8-7 before beating North Atlanta twice, 5-3 and 13-5.

For the Lady Tigers, the toughest test of Super Regionals was the first one against Lakeside.

Alcovy mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh against the Lady Panthers, ultimately walking it off on an RBI single from Jamaya Anderson.

The Lady Tigers trailed North Atlanta late in game two before a four-run sixth inning boosted them to their second win. In game three against North Atlanta, Alcovy won via rout to secure their position in Columbus.

Offensively, the Lady Tigers will look to carry momentum from Super Regionals, where they had three batters who finished over a .500 batting average. Pitchers Olivia Tomberlin and CeCe Williams will continue to take the mound as they did in Super Regionals, where they finished with identical innings pitched at 9.2.

The Lady Tigers are in an elite eight that holds River Ridge, South Effingham, Pope, Newnan, Grovetown, Lassiter and Effingham County.

Alcovy’s first game at the South Commons Complex in Columbus will be against the River Ridge Lady Knights Wednesday, October 25 at 5 p.m.. The Lady Knights finished the regular season with a 21-12 record.

If Alcovy wins their first game, they will play the winner of Lassiter and Effingham County. If they lose, they will face the loser between the Lady Trojans and the Lady Rebels.

Eastside Eagles

Similar to Alcovy, the Lady Eagles finished with a sweep of Super Regionals after beating Lithia Springs and Chattahoochee.

Eastside finished all three of their Super Regionals games via run-rule.

The Lady Eagles beat the Lady Lions 16-1 in game one before beating the Lady Cougars 9-1 and 11-1 in their final two games.

Following the Columbus-clinching win of Chattahoochee, head coach Heather Wood felt that her team was “peaking at the right time,” and the stat sheet all but confirms it.

With Donnee Morain leading with a .888 batting average, four other Eastside batters are batting over .300.

On the mound, Dezaria “Z” Johnson and Eva Davis allowed a combined three runs through three games.

Eastside resides in an elite eight that also holds Northgate, Ola, Cartersville, Cambridge, Harris County, Northside and Kell.

The Lady Eagles will begin their Columbus stretch against the Northgate Lady Vikings Wednesday, October 25. The Lady Lady Vikings finished the regular season with a 19-11 record.

If Eastside wins their first game, they will play the winner between Northside and Kell. If they lose, they will face the loser between the Lady Patriots and the Lady Longhorns.
