OXFORD, Ga. — The Oxford College of Emory University Athletic Department finished in 11th place in the final standings of the Daktronics Cup as announced by the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA). Heading into its 19th year, the Daktronics Cup recognizes the top athletic programs in the three divisions of two-year college athletics. Daktronics has sponsored this award for the last four years in conjunction with NATYCAA. Emory Oxford is in the Non-Scholarship Division (Division III), which has 161 athletic programs in it.
Colleges earn points based on their performance in each division’s end-of-the-season championship events. The winners of each championship earn 20 points, second-place finishes earn 19 points, third-place finishers receive 18 points, etc. Colleges use their top-five sports finishes per gender to accumulate points toward their division’s cup standings.
After top finishes in women’s tennis and women’s cross-country earlier in the year, the Eagles sat in third place following the fall season. In the spring, the men’s tennis team won their ninth national championship, helping the Eagles accumulate 66 points to finish the year. Rowan College at Gloucester County finished first with a total of 135.5.
This was a record-setting year for the department, which saw its men’s and women’s tennis team continue their dominance. Both won their sixth consecutive national title, while the women’s cross-country team earned their first-ever national title.
