COVINGTON, Ga. - Down 14 points, The Eastside Eagles roared back to beat county rivals the Alcovy Tigers by a score of 42-28.
In the final county rivalry game of the season, the Eagles offense had its fair share of struggles, but the hard-nosed running of running back Terrence Reid was ultimately the difference and has earned him Chick-fil-A Covington Player of the Week honors.
Reid's three touchdowns and unofficial 90 rushing yards helped pace the Eagles offense and played a pivotal role in keeping his team in the game.
In the early stages of the Eagles clash with the Tigers, Eastside trailed by a score of 14-0 and the Tigers seemed to hold every ounce of momentum in the game.
However, the Eagles tied the game up off of Reid's first touchdown of the night with just 47 ticks left on the clock before the halftime buzzer sounded. The difference between trailing at the half and having a tie ball game is immense.
Reid's ability to earn the tough yards in short-yardage situations helped play a role in swinging the momentum back to the Eagles and keep them in the ballgame.
Reid continued to be a force to be reckoned with when the Eagles needed short yardage. After a successful fake punt attempt by the Eagles in the first few minutes of the second half, Reid took advantage of another opportunity to score and to give his team the lead, and he did just that.
Reid's final score of the game came on a 36-yard scamper that was blocked perfectly and led him, untouched, to a clear path to the endzone. This score by Reid came in the late portion of the fourth quarter and put his team up by two scores, which effectively put the game out of reach.
After the game, Eagles head coach Troy Hoff noted Reid's strong performance and how Reid was still working on getting back in full football shape since returning from his injury this past summer.
This performance is remarkable for the Eagles running back, especially since he is still trying to get back in better football shape since his injury.
This exceptional performance could be the first of many for the Eagles talented running-back, and he will definitely be one to watch for the remainder of the football season.
