Newton's Ashton Hagans has become one of the top high school basketball players in the nation.

COVINGTON, Ga. — Top Class of 2019 prospect and Newton High star point guard Ashton Hagans has decommitted from Georgia.

In a report from 247sports.com, Hagans’ AAU coach, Chris Williams confirmed that the 6-foot-4 junior has decided consider other options, but is not altogether ruling out UGA.

“He’s opening up his recruitment, but he’s also considering Georgia in the future,” Williams said in the 247sports.com article.

Hagans gave his verbal to Mark Fox back on Dec. 21, but with rumors circulating about Fox’s potential dismissal after this season, some prep hoops prognosticators began to wonder about the security of the Georgia coach’s much ballyhooed 2019 recruiting class that also includes former Shiloh standout Elias King.

Hagans is gearing up to face a top 2018 prospect in EJ Montgomery Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. when Class AAAAAAA No. 3 Newton hosts Wheeler in the state tournament’s Elite Eight round.
