COVINGTON, Ga. — Eastside defensive back, Jamari Brown has another postseason award to add to his list.

The senior DB and wide receiver was named the Class AAAA Defensive Player of the Year for the Georgia Sportswriters Association’s 2018 All-State football team that was released Wednesday morning.

Brown was one of three Eastside players to make the Class AAAA All-State first team. The others were kicker Kade Mote and punter Ezra King.

Junior quarterback, Noah Cook was an all-state second team selection after throwing and passing for close to 2,500 yards while leading the Eagles to an undefeated regular season, a Region 4-AAAA championship and a Class AAAA quarterfinals finish in the state playoffs.

Senior running back, Taylor Carter — who recently committed to West Virginia State — and senior defensive lineman, Jaylen Atlow were named all-state honorable mention.

The Eastside six weren’t the only ones from the area that found their names on GSWA all-state rosters. Newton senior offensive lineman, Kendrick Carlton was named to the Class AAAAAAA second team, as was junior wideout, Robert Lewis who was named second team returner. Lewis and senior Mike Mathison were selected as honorable mention wide receivers.
