Since beginning Region 2-AAAAAA play, Alcovy softball has been on a roll.

The Tigers (16-2-1, 3-0) have won seven straight games up until Saturday's Madison-Morgan County Tournament at Heritage Park.

Not only has Alcovy put up an impressive streak, but also have three straight shutouts and won the previous two games while allowing just one run in each.

Having only just lost its second game of the season, 6-1 to Ola, Alcovy grinded out an eight-inning victory over Eastside, 2-1.

The Tigers then defeated Monticello 7-2 on Sept. 5, Rockdale 13-1 on Sept. 6, Newton 9-1 and Morrow 12-0 on Thursday and Monroe Area 8-0 and Dodge County 1-0 on Friday.

The Rockdale, Newton and Morrow victories were also the Tigers first region wins of the year, putting them on top tied with zero losses with Druid Hills (3-0) and Luella (2-0).

Both of those opponents are coming up for Alcovy, starting with a home game against Luella on Tuesday.

It then hosts Ola Wednesday and travels to Lovejoy on Thursday before hosting Druid Hills on Sept. 25.

Eastside volleyball
Eastside volleyball opened up its Region 8-AAAA slate with back-to-back wins, beating Lumpkin County 2-1 and Monroe Area 2-1 on Aug. 28.

Since then, the Eagles have gone 2-6, but only dropped one region match, falling 2-0 to Madison County on Tuesday.

Eastside currently sits in the fourth position of a four-team playoff race in Region 8 and has key matchups coming up with first-placed Walnut Grove and fifth-placed Chestatee on Tuesday.

The Eagles return home for a match against Athens Christian and Salem Thursday before returning to region play on Tuesday against Johnson, Gainesville on Sept. 25.
