Rysan Richardson tallied a hat trick to lead Alcovy over Newton 5-2 in a cross-town soccer matchup on Tuesday night.

Newton struck first, but Alcovy didn't stay behind long with Richardson putting in the first of his trio. Uriel D'Andrade then added one of his own to put the Tigers up 2-1 at halftime.

Richardson scored his second goal to start off the second half, putting one into the upper corner. Newton answered immediately, by scoring less than a minute later. The score remained that way until late in the match when Rysan scored his third goal.

Moments later, Jerry Anderson scored off a corner kick to seal it.

"I thought we looked a little rusty coming off the winter break and our possession did not look as sharp," Alcovy coach Chris Edgar said. "The weather may have had something to do with that, but it is no excuse. We must improve defensive mistakes that lead to goals."

The Tigers have scored 12 goals in their first three games, all wins and will host Dutchtown on Friday.

"I am happy with the offensive performances thus far in the season," Edgar said. "We are averaging three goals a game which is a marked improvement over last year. I credit that to the maturity of the team. They are older players now with understanding of the game."
