PREP SOCCER: Tigers trying to break losing streak
Alcovy soccer

COVINGTON, Ga. — The 2022 soccer season hasn’t been smooth sailing for both of the Alcovy soccer programs. Being over halfway through the season, each team is still seeking their first win of the year.

 Alcovy Tigers

The Tigers are currently winless at 0-7 overall along with a 0-5 record in Region 3-AAAAAA. Alcovy’s latest matchup was against Rockdale County on March 1 at home.

Alcovy lost 9-0 at Evans High School on March 4. That followed the closest match the Tigers have had so far this season in 5-4 loss against Rockdale County.

Next up for the Tigers will be a home match versus Heritage on March 15 followed by a rematch with Evans High School at home on March 18.

Alcovy Lady Tigers

Like their male counterparts, the Lady Tigers find themselves at 0-7 with a Region 3-AAAAAA record of 0-5, too.

Alcovy has yet to score a goal this season, too.

But, given the fact that the Lady Tigers didn’t field a team last year, head coach Dwayne Graydon is proud of the effort given all the players so far this season.

“Our communication is getting better,” Graydon said. “Just knowing where and when to be has been a challenge this year. Also, just getting some experience. About 75% of the team is first-year soccer players. So, learning the game and how to compete will help us move forward.”
