ATHENS, Ga. – The Alcovy Tigers are proving once again to be a difficult out in 7-on-7 passing league tournaments.

A little over a week removed from a surprise fourth place finish in the Cam Newton 7v7 Tournament in Marietta, the Tigers traveled to the home of the Georgia Bulldogs and put up a third place finish in the Kirby Smart 7v7 Tournament in Athens Wednesday.

Alcovy finished with a 5-3 record in the 18-team tournament that featured schools from across the southeast. In fact, it was a team of Miami, Fla. high school standouts called Miami Central that ousted the Tigers in overtime.

Head coach Chris Edgar, who has been bullish on the talent his skill units possess, said he’s proud of the statement he feels his team is making locally, based on their summer performances.

“These guys are playing hard,” Edgar said. “We still haven’t been put out of a tournament by a Georgia team yet.”

Next Thursday, the Tigers will travel to Walnut Grove High in Loganville to compete in the Airo 7v7 Georgia State Championship Series tournament, with several other schools from the area.
