Alcovy’s Kemoi Burke penned his national letter of intent Thursday to continue his football career at the next level with the Georgia Knights Prep Academy.

Burke was one of six Tigers that signed NLIs in an event held in Alcovy’s auditorium.

After the signing, Burke expressed his feelings on the day and how his move to the Georgia Knights is just one step in what he expects to be a long career.

“It feels great that I know I put in work throughout the season to get somewhere I wanted to be — the next level,” Burke said. “It may not be the school that I wanted, but it is an opportunity. I know God has bigger plans for me, so I am trusting him. This is just the first step in a new part of my life.”

Burke was Alcovy’s starting running back as a senior, which came a year after he suffered a season-ending knee injury.

In his “get back” year, Burke rushed for 788 yards and scored nine touchdowns.

Those stats led to Burke being named to the Second Team All-Region for Region 3-AAAAAA at the end of his senior campaign and eventually earning the chance to play at the next level.

On his singing day, Burke shared what professional running backs he models his game after.

“When I first started playing, I liked Marshawn Lynch,” Burke said. “Then I went over to Jahmyr Gibbs, I like how he plays.”

The commitment to not just the sport, but the classroom as well, was one of the main areas where Burke felt Alcovy helped him the most.

“They helped by keeping me focused in the classroom,” Burke said, “Because you can’t get nowhere without the classroom. If you don’t have the classroom, there is no football. They helped me with that. They helped me make sure I go 100 percent in everything you do. You show up on time, you make sure you are disciplined, and you do your assignments no matter what and be coachable. That was the biggest thing they taught me — be coachable.”

As he gears up to play football for the Georgia Knights in the fall, Burke shared what kind of tailback his new team will be getting.

“They are going to get a better version than what Alcovy got in me,” Burke said. “I am going to be working in the offseason, so they are going to get a better version.”
