Alcovy picks up homecoming win

The Alcovy Tigers defeated the visiting Mustangs of Morrow high, 30-13 at Homer Sharp Stadium Thursday night.

The Tigers offense dictated the pace of the game throughout the entire first half, thanks in part to their accurate aerial assault on the Mustangs.

Tigers (1-4) senior quarterback, Cornell White hit senior receiver Antwan Glover for a 40-yard touchdown pass, putting the Tigers first points on the board with 5:54 left in the first quarter.

Much like the first half, the Tigers' offense continued to dominate a very lackadaisical Mustangs' defense, putting more points on the board.
Not to be outdone by its offensive counterparts, Alcovy's defense helped bolster the score as well. Senior Marcus Williams ran the recovered fumble back for what was the Tigers only defensive score of the evening, with just 1:55 left in the first half.

The Tigers' defense was relentless in its pursuit of the ball. Swarming gang tackles and assisted pressure kept any and all of the Mustangs (1-5) drives at bay.

Coming into Thursday's game, the Mustangs were trying to shake a four-game losing streak, their only win coming against Forest Park on Sept. 7.
Seeming to have become complacent with their 30 point lead going into the fourth quarter, the Tigers momentum tapered off. The Mustangs dashed Alcovy's hopes of a shutout with 8:09 left in the game.
Though the Mustangs were in too deep a hole, they added another score with 46.1 seconds remaining.

The Tigers travel to Avondale Stadium Friday to take on the Red Devils of Druid Hills.
