Alcovy took on two rivals this weekend and defeated both.
After beating Eastside on the road Friday night, Alcovy welcomed Newton Saturday evening, winning 40-25.
The two teams showed balanced offensive and defensive attacks in the first half, with Alcovy leading by just one point at intermission.
The second half, though, belonged soley to the Tigers (3-2).
Senior Ashley Williams led the way, putting her teammates on her back in the final two quarters for their second straight victory. Williams finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.
While Williams was dominating on the individual stat sheet, Alcovy secured the game in the rebounding column. The Tigers had 25 rebounds, while Newton (2-2) managed 18.
Newton, who seemed to be playing catch up the whole night, just couldn't seem to get it done on either the offensive or defensive end. Juniors Precious Price and Sonia Forney led the Rams with seven points apiece.
Both Alcovy and Newton continue Region 2-AAAAAA play this week as the Tigers host Druid Hills Tuesday and the Rams welcome Lovejoy to Newton Tuesday.
The Tigers are aklready in their Region 2-AAAAAA schedule, facing Druid Hills and Morrow this week. But Eastside is still in non-region play until mid-January. The Eagles travel to Lumpkin County on Friday, Jan. 11 for its first Region 8A-AAAA matchup of the 2012-13 season.
