For his efforts on the gridiron last week, Alcovy defensive end Curtiss Benton has been named the Alcovy Athlete of the Week.

Benton and the Tigers' defense held rival Rockdale County to just one score a week ago in Alcovy's 22-7 victory over the Bulldogs.

Benton finished the contest with five sacks, a tackle-for-loss and returned a fumble 10 yards for a touchdown as the Tigers earned their fifth region win of the season.

"It was a great feeling going out and making plays for my team," Benton said. "The defense played really well, and we were able to get into the backfield a lot."

The Tigers held The Bulldogs to just 15 rushing yards on the ground.

Alcovy returns to action next week in the first round of the state tournament against Hillgrove.
