Bishop Luis Zarama, who was recently named as an Auxiliary Bishop and the first Hispanic bishop appointed to the Atlanta Archdiocese, visited St. Pius X church on Sunday for a Mass for the Hispanic congregation that turned out to be standing-room only.
Member Silvia Quevedo, who has seen the Hispanic congregation grow significantly over the decade as she's attended St. Pius, said, "When we heard he was being named Auxiliary Bishop, we were really excited, because it's like having someone from your family being able to represent you. I think that's how it was received."
Hispanic Core Ministry lay member John Martin estimated there were 600 to 700 families in the Latino congregation.
