Yellow River near flooding, parts of Rockdale under flood warning
No Newton Roads are closed, schools remain open

The flooding forecast issued by the National Weather service has increased from minor to major severity for the Yellow River near Conyers below Milstead Road.

 

As of 8 a.m. Monday the stage was 10.3 feet and rising. For the Yellow River, major flooding is forecast and it will reach its flood stage at 11.0 feet.

 

The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by late Monday morning and will continue to rise to near 20.0 feet Tuesday morning. At 20 feet, major flooding will begin.

The Rockdale County Sherriff's Office reported no road closures or property damage at this time.

The NWS advises citizens by the river be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect life and property. Do not drive cars through flooded areas. If you see flood waters, remember to turn around and do not drown.

The warning is expected to be in effect until late Wednesday night.
