Residents and police officers worked hand-in-hand to catch two robbery suspects in less than eight minutes on Wednesday, July 18.
Conyers Police received a call at 7:55 p.m. on July 18 reporting a robbery by force that had occurred at the Kroger store located at 1745 Highway 138. The female victim had arrived to shop at Kroger and was approached by a black male who grabbed her purse and ran through the parking lot. An unidentified Good Samaritan followed the suspect and called police to report the robbery.
Officers patrolling in the area nearby responded to the call at Kroger, spoke with witnesses and obtained a description of the car the suspect used to escape. Conyers officers, with the assistance of Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office deputies, located the suspect’s car on Parker Road shortly thereafter.
The two suspects, 19-year-old Demetric Favors and a 15-year-old male, were arrested and charged with robbery.
“We are most appreciative of the vigilance shown and bravery demonstrated by citizens that take action when other citizens are threatened,” said Conyers Police Chief Gene Wilson. “This situation was resolved quickly thanks to the heroic actions of our citizens coupled with the quick response from our officers.”
