The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area north of the line from Carrollton to Atlanta to Gainesville - an area just north of Rockdale County - until 7 a.m. Thursday.

Moisture in the air and cooler surface tempteratures bring the threat of patchy ice on bridges, overpasses and elevated surfaces in the warning areas. Hazardous driving conditions are expected overnight in the advisory areas.

Rockdale County, Newton County, and areas east and south were issued a special weather statement that described a wintry mix of precipitation overnight.

The precipitation is expected to turn into rain by midnight. About a quarter to half inch of precipitation is expected through Thursday night.

 "Motorists are advised to use caution and slow down," read the statement.
