The Rockdale County men's cross country team continued its impressive season on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Winder-Barrow Invitational, placing second overall to host Winder-Barrow.
The Bulldogs placed three finishers in the top-20 of the event, including a first place finish by Dax Willette. Willette finished almost 17 seconds ahead of Cambridge High School's Bjorn Leicher with a time of 17:12.61.
The individual championship was Willette's second first place finish of the year. Willitte also placed first overall at the North Oconee meet on Sept. 5.
Rockdale coach Jeff Spotts said that his team performed very well under less than ideal conditions.
"We were shorthanded," Spotts said. "Our number two runner was unavailable, but our guys stepped up big to take second against a very good Winder Barrow team. Freshman Sulaimane Bangura had a breakout race and ran a personal best.
"Dax Willette took first place easily, but I don't think he's going to be flying under the radar for much longer," Spotts said.
Winder-Barrow recorded 62 points for first, while Rockdale finished with 95 points. Johns Creek (97), Cambridge (152) and Jefferson (153), finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Logan Hull placed 11th overall at the event for the Bulldogs in a time of 18:15.11, while Jonathan Butler rounded out Rockdale's top-20 finishers in 19th place in a time of 18:40.13.
Bangura finished fourth overall for Rockdale, and 27th overall, in a time of 18:52.06. Kevin Mendez rounded out the top-5 finishers for the Bulldogs with a time of 19:14.89, good for 37th overall.
