You don't need to embark on a Tolkien-esque through a wild wilderness inhabited by foreign monsters in order to squeeze a little adventure into your weekend. In fact, you don't even have to cross a state line for a pulse-pounding good time these days. Within the confines of Georgia, extreme thrill seekers can run wild with the bulls. Those of you who prefer to keep you're walk on the wild side safely contained can take a spooky tour through a haunted theatre.
Generally, the mentally stable population does not voluntarily place themselves in close proximity to 1,500 pound bulls running at full speed. Occasionally, however, a break from sanity is much needed. Pack up your responsibility, shove in the storage closet for the day, and get ready for an afternoon of pure shenanigans at The Great Bull Run. The morning begins with a brisk quarter mile sprint as twenty four hefty pulls barrel down the path behind you. If adrenaline isn't your drug of choice, you can still grab a spectator seat and take in all the action from a safe distance. After you've outrun the beasts, or watched others attempt the feat, you can take part in the Tomato Royale. It's all the ridiculous food fight hijinks of chucking a tomato at random strangers, and none of the sticky clean-up. Stick around for a complimentary beer, included in the price of your ticket. Enjoy the full slate of incredible live performers while you take part in an afternoon of family friendly festival-style games.
If you'd like some excitement without getting involved with sweaty livestock or scrubbing tomato stains, check out the annual Little 5 Points Halloween Parade followed by 7 Stages' Spookhius. It's never too early to get into the Halloween spirit. Get amped up for the spookiest of holidays with a day of costumes and kooky surprises. The free parade includes chilling homemade floats (think pick-up trucks transformed into tarantulas) and a slew of costumed marchers. After the creepy spectacle, hit up 7 Stages so you can tour the haunted theatre for a $5 fee. The theatre, usually home to improve nights and one-of-kind shows, is getting thoroughly creepified for your enjoyment. An afternoon within Little 5 Points' hippest theatre promises big bugs, bog hounds, killer clowns, scary sounds, electro-shock and wives the rock.
There you have it, exhilarating activities that will keep your heart racing and your wallet full. May your weekend be filled with big horns, exploding tomatoes, insane floats, and maybe even a ghoul or two.
