As the days get longer, the local events on the weekend bubble over with a wide range of family friendly activities. Here are a few on Saturday, April 28: 

Oratorical Showcase

Show off your gift of the gab at the Rockdale County Public Schools Oratorical Showcase at Rockdale Career Academy, 1064 Culpepper Dr. SW. Registration is 8 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and student presentations are 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Elementary science and social studies exhibits will also be displayed. (770) 388-5677.

Community Yard Sale

The community is invited to bring household goods, toys, clothes, and other items to the 4th annual County Community Yard Sale sponsored by The Rockdale County Department of Recreation and Maintenance from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Government Annex Building Parking Lot, 1400 Parker Road. Disposal of Prescription Drugs

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Administrative Building lobby at 911 Chambers Drive. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

RMC Community Blood Drive

Financial Workshop

The Chi Tau Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority presents the “Let’s Change” financial workshop 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Live Oak Elementary, 500 Kirkland Road, Covington. Free and open to the public. Topics include savings and investment, life insurance, estate planning, entrepreneurship, dealing with financial stress. Mustang Practice, Jamboree

Mighty Male Chorus

Elks Aidmore Music Festival

 Beginning at 5 p.m. at the Georgia International Horse Park,  EAMF raises funds for children in foster care, most of whom are victims of domestic abuse. Performing are Ken Ford, Claudette King, Will Culbreath and Tampa Blue. Tickets?
