Question: How do you know you live in the South?

Answer: When the Georgia Department of Transportation announces weekend road closures with a rah-rah for the local football team. In this case the Atlanta Falcons.

“It’s a ‘Rise Up’ weekend” is the headline for a Thursday DOT release. “As the Falcons launch their drive for the Super Bowl this weekend, (DOT) crews and contractors will resume their push toward conclusion of the 2014 construction season.”

Weather permitting, westbound lanes on Interstate 20 in Newton and Rockdale counties between Salem Road and Stockbridge Highway will be closed all weekend, as well as the eastbound exit and entrance ramps the U.S. 278/I-20 interchange in Covington.

The ramps will also be closed from noon Sunday, Sept. 7, through noon, Friday, Sept. 12.

“There is a good chance that rain will at least interrupt, if not cancel” construction, the DOT release says.
