Former Rockdale County Bulldogs Kevin Ware returned from injury this week for the Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball team, scoring six points and grabbing four rebounds in the Cardinals 90-61 exhibition win over Pikeville.

The game was Ware’s first after suffering a broken leg against Duke in the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Ware was cleared to practice last Sunday and went through his first full-contact practice with the Cardinals last week.

Ware nailed his first shot of the contest, finishing 1-of-3 from the floor, and 3-for-4 at the free-throw line, in 10 minutes of action.

The junior received a standing ovation while checking into the second half of the contest.

Ware suffered his injury on March 31 when his right leg gave out beneath him, causing his leg to bend unnaturally. Ware suffered a compound fracture and the injury was expected to be career-ending.

Ware averaged 4.5 points a game in 37 games last season for Louisville. Ware scored a career-high 11 points against Oregon in last season’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, hitting 5-of-7 shots from the field off the bench for the Cardinals.

Ware is expected to dress out for Louisville’s season opener today against College of Charleston.
