Family Promise of NewRock, an interfaith network of religious congregations that take turns hosting homeless families, is seeking 20-25 volunteers as well as financial donations to aid in the completion of their new Day Center located at 2690 Highway 212 in Conyers.

The group will be working Saturday, Aug. 17, Saturday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 31 starting at 9 a.m., with work ending around 3 p.m.

Volunteers who come to help out Saturday will be helping paint and clean the building, as well as move in furniture closer to the end of the month.

Those interested in assisting with the project just need to show up ready to work. There is no age restriction on volunteers; however, parents will need to accompany children.

The new Day Center will provide a “a home-like environment for the homeless families [FPNR] serves,” according to Family Promise of NewRock Network Director Erin White. Families in the program will use the building to meet personal hygiene needs, such as showering and laundry, as well as take classes, meet with the case manager, and apply for jobs.

Children in the program will come to the Day Center after school, where they will complete homework, have a snack, and relax.

Family Promise of NewRock is also seeking monetary donations to help fund the project, as well as program operations. Donations can be made online at www.familypromiseofnewrock.org.

“All of the funds donated to help with the renovations will be used to help make the day center a tremendous resource for the children and their parents in our program,” said White.

Interested volunteers can contact FPNR Network Director Erin White at director@familypromiseofnewrock.org with any questions. Visit www.familypromiseofnewrock.com for more information or to make a donation.
