(1:44 p.m.,  Aug. 28) In a separate robbery attempt that occured shortly before noon Wednesday, Rockdale County Sheriff's Office investigators are searching for a suspect that struck a business on Pine Log Road, across from Pine Log Park.

Deputies responded to a "hold up" alarm at Max General shortly before noon. Witnesses reported that a man displaying a handgun entered the building and tried to get in to a secured area. Employees activated the alarm. When he failed to gain entry, he ran from the building. No shots were fired, and no one was injured. He reportedly left in a light-colored passenger car.

The suspect is described as a heavy-set black male with facial hair, wearing a dark knit face covering, black gloves, and blue jeans. He was carrying a small handgun.

Deputies quickly responded to the area and set up an external perimeter. They continue to patrol the area and interview witnesses.

Smoothie King robbery attempt

(11:22 a.m., Aug. 28, 2013) Conyers police are on the hunt for an armed robber who attempted to rob the Smoothie King on Ga. Highway 138 Wednesday morning.

Police received a call around 10:20 a.m. that a male suspect had entered the store and pointed a gun at the lone employee who was coming from the back section of the store to the front. The employee, upon seeing the gun, ran out the back entrance to a neighboring store where they called 911. The suspect reportedly was not able to take any cash from the store.

Police K9s are searching for the suspect, who is described as a black male, about 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches in height, about 180 to 200 pounds, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, which he had drawn tight around his face when he entered. When he fled, he took off the sweatshirt and was wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and shoes with reflective white strips.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to call Conyers Police Department Lt. Chris Moon at 770-929-4206.

CPD Capt. Jack Dunn said one way the public can help police and help prevent such incidents is to call police if they spot anything suspicious or unusual, such as a person wearing a hooded sweatshirt on a hot summer day, and give officers a chance to look into any situations.
