UPDATE (May 12, 4:32 p.m.) The truck has been towed and Ga. Highway 138 westbound is open.

--------------------------

(May 12, 4:20 p.m.): The cab of a tractor trailer truck caught fire and burned down on the intersection of Ga. 20 south and Ga. Highway 138, next to the Walgreens and Wells Fargo bank, Thursday around 3 p.m. No one was injured in the fire.  Firefighters cut into the trailer, which was filled with Kleenex tissue products, to make sure no sparks or embers were in the trailer portion.

The driver said the truck started smoking while he was driving and he when he looked back, he spotted flames as well.

"By the time I pulled over, the cab was so full of smoke, I could hardly see," he said. He had never had anything like this happen in his many years of driving, he said. The truck belonged to James Brown Contracting Inc. of Lithonia.

The entrance to Ga. Highway 138 westbound, the start of the Stockbridge Parkway, was closed as emergency personnel dealt with the fire and cleanup.
