UPDATE: Woman injured in I-20 crash identified

UPDATE: A Covington woman was flown to an Atlanta area hospital with serious injuries after a crash on I-20 eastbound Monday morning, according to a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson.

Amberiah Lester, 27, from Covington was traveling east in the middle lane near Salem Road  when, for an unknown reason, she suddenly steered left and hit the median wall.  After hitting the wall, her vehicle began to overturn and she was ejected onto the roadway.

Lester was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries.  She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

(8:44 a.m.) A series of crashes occured this morning on Interstate 20 eastbound, one with serious injuries. Traffic is slowly being allowed past the crash site.

(8:17 a.m.) All eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 have been shut down between Ga. Highway 138 and Salem Road. Traffic is backed up nearly to the West Avenue exit. Westbound lanes are open. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes. Check back for more information.
