Sims Elementary and  Flat Shoals Elementary were honored by the American School Counselor Association with a RAMP designation for their counseling programs.

The RAMP status, awarded to schools that meet the criteria set in the ASCA National Model, recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment. The application process is detailed and lengthy, requiring schools to present evidence of community feedback and the effective implementation of programs that are based on the specific needs of each school.

RCPS Director of Student Support Candace Ford said, "These recognitions are quite an honor for Rockdale County Public Schools, as over the past year, the district has acquired more schools with RAMP status than in other district in the state of Georgia." She added, "Research indicates that students who have the behavioral, social and emotional supports within the school setting fare much better academically than those who do not have structures guidance programs."

To date, the following Rockdale schools have attained the RAMP designation: C.J. Hicks, Barksdale, Hightower Trail, J.H. House, Sims, Flat Shoals and Peeks Chapel. Sims and Flat Shoals will be honored at the upcoming ASCA National Conference in Boston.
