Conyers-Rockdale added this week to its growing list of film and television productions shot in the county with a television series pilot starring Kevin Bacon and a movie starring Clint Eastwood.
Kevin Williamson, the creator and writer of the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” and “Secret Circle,” is shooting part of an unnamed TV pilot at the Salem Gate Shopping Center off of Ga. Highway 138, according to Rockdale’s Camera Ready Liaison Gina Hartsell.
The series, a Warner Brother production for the Fox television network, would star Bacon as a retired FBI agent called back to pursue a serial killer, played by James Purefoy (Mark Antony in HBO’s “Rome”). If picked up, the series would have 15 episodes a season instead of the usual 22 episodes, according to AJC blogger Rodney Ho.
The scene at the Salem Gate Shopping Center will shoot through the first part of the week until Wednesday evening.
Also shooting at the Salem Gate Shopping Center was a scene for “Trouble With The Curve,” a Warner Brother film starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake. Eastwood plays an aging baseball scout out on one last recruiting trip with his daughter, Adams, to see a potential player, Timberlake.
Hank and Jerry’s Tavern, on Old Salem Road, was transformed Tuesday into “Boot’s Bar.”
One extra on the TV pilot shoot, Tom Hunt, played the part of a TV News Cameraman in the unnamed Kevin Williamson project.
Hunt is a retired military man who said his wife Dawn suggested he apply for a job as an extra in the movies.
Since there are so many companies filming here in Georgia, she just thought they could use the extra money; plus it would get Tom out of her way for a few hours.
Since October Tom has worked in three Georgia movies. His first was "Parental Guidance," starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler, to be released by 20th Century Fox on November 12, 2012. Filming took place in Atlanta and its suburbs.
Tom admits the work entails long hours with little pay but says the chance to work with great film actors and actresses make up for the standing around for hours until they're ready to shoot your scene.
