Mehcad Brooks, who portrays Benedict "Eggs" Talley in Alan Ball’s hit HBO series, "TRUE BLOOD" will appear at the Mall at Stonecrest on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. during Women’s Expo 2009. Fans of the hit series are welcome to meet the rising star, asks questions pertaining to his role in "TRUE BLOOD," pose for a picture and receive an autograph.
Brooks who stars opposite Anna Paquin and Steven Moyer in the hit series, is a SAG Award winner for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and an Image Award nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance on the ABC Drama, "Desperate Housewives," playing the role of Alfre Woodard’s son. It was Mehcad’s portrayal of character ‘Matthew Applewhite’ that led to his inclusion in Daily Variety’s "Ten Young Actors to Watch" feature in August 2005.
In 2008, Chris Carter (X-FILES) cast Brooks as the lead in his soon to be released dramatic feature "Fencewalker." Mehcad’s performance in the film is garnering much buzz throughout the industry. He may be best known for his work in the Paul Haggis film "In the Valley of Elah" opposite Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron, and the Jerry Bruckheimer film for Disney, "Glory Road," which debuted at #1 at the box-office. "Glory Road", directed by James Gartner and written by Chris Cleveland, tells the story of the 1966 college basketball team who was the first all-black starting line-up to win the NCAA national championship, and was led by Coach Don Haskins. Brooks portrays ‘Harry Flournoy,’ one of the star players of the team.
An athlete himself, Brooks grew up in Austin, Texas where he was an All-State basketball player in addition to playing football and baseball. He was accepted into Yale University, but instead attended the University of Southern California to study at their prestigious School of Cinema-Television. He also modeled during his high school and college years. His first breaks came as guest-starring roles on "Malcolm in the Middle," "Boston Public," "One on One" and "Cold Case." He also starred in the Disney television movie, "Tiger Cruise."
