Georgia State Patrol Troop E has formed a task force to target impaired drivers. The task force will patrol the troop’s 21 assigned counties that run along Interstate 20 from Conyers to South Carolina.
The task force will deploy at least once a month to different counties within the Troop E territory for concentrated patrols and sobriety checkpoints. The task force will also work closely with local law enforcement agencies to support their driving under the influence enforcement efforts.
The first deployment of the task force was on Friday night and Saturday night. On Friday, the task force teamed up with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, where troopers made 25 DUI arrests. An additional seven DUI arrests were made Saturday in McDuffie County.
Future patrols are being planned for Oglethorpe and Walton Counties.
Currently, there are 11 troopers assigned to the task force, who are located at patrol posts in Monroe, Madison, Washington, Milledgeville, and Grovetown.
“These troopers have shown great aptitude for DUI enforcement in the past,” said Troop E Commander Captain Allen Marlowe. “This is a collateral duty for each of the troopers who will continue to perform his daily assigned tasks on patrol."
All have received Standardized Field Sobriety Training and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement Training. Four of these troopers have also been trained as a Drug Recognition Expert. D.R.E., and one as a D.R.E. Instructor.
