The Deer Run Dolphins won the title of Rockdale County Swim League Champions this past Saturday, beating out three-time former champion Covington YMCA.
More than 300 Rockdale Swim League swimmers converged on Johnson Park to compete in the Rockdale County Swim League Championship. Brentwood, Covington YMCA, Deer Run, Meadowbrook and Westchester Lakes swim teams participated in dual meets throughout the month of June in preparation for the championship meet held on Saturday, June 21.
The 10 and under age group swimmers started the competition in the morning session.
Annalise Digby from the Westchester Wahoos and Lynnette Smith from Deer Run swam to tie for first place high points in the girls six and under category. Second place high points repeated a tie between Loralai Slawinski of Meadowbrook and Ally Barnett from Brentwood Barracudas. Third place high points went to Lyla Leonard of the Westchester Wahoos.
6 and under boys
Cole Berry of Brentwood took home first place high points. Second place high points went to Reed Hudson of the Covington YMCA Piranhas. Jack Sullivan of the Westchester Wahoos and Gavin McGinnis of Meadowbrook tied for third place.
7/8 girls
Kala Berry of Brentwood took the 50-free, 10- individual medley and 25-fly and took home the first place high points trophy in the seven/eight girls category. Sarah Digby of Westchester was awarded second place high points. Deer Run's Kaselynn Mitchell and Emma Lindell both tied for third place high points.
7/8 boys
Emery Langston of the Covington YMCA won the first place high points trophy. Max Guadagao of Meadowbrook and Liam Long of Westchester tied for the second place trophy and Caleb Riser of Covington Y took home the trophy for third place high points.
9/10 girls
Emma Brock of the Deer Run Dolphins took the nine/10 girls first place high points trophy swimming a perfect score in the 100-individual medley, 25-breaststroke and 25-backstroke. Gia-An Maynard from Westchester took second place high points. Laura Goldgar from Deer Run and Emma Leonard from the Westchester Wahoos tied for third place high points.
9/10 boys
Payton Morrison Of the Covington YMCA Piranhas was awarded first place high points swimming for first place in the 50-free, 25-free and 25-back. Joseph Williams of Meadowbrook took home second place high points and Justin Byrd of the Deer Run Dolphins received the third place high point trophy.
The 11 year old and up age group competed in the afternoon session.
11/12 girls
High point winner Sarah Riley of Covington YMCA took first place titles in the 100-yard free, 100-IM and 50-fly. Thien-An Maynard from Westchester Lakes Wahoos took second place high points and Maddie Lombard from Meadowbrook took third place high points.
11/12 boys
High point winner Keller White from Deer Run swam the 100-yard free, 50-yard free and 50-yard backstroke. Jonathan Gaines of the Brentwood Barracudas and Nicholas McCartney of the Meadowbrook Marlins took second and third place high points respectively.
13/14 girls
The Deer Run Dolphins swept the high points category with Delaney Willette swimming a perfect score for first place in the 100-yard free, 100-yard individual medley and the 50-yard backstroke. Brittany Major took second place high points and Caroline Turner was awarded third place high points.
13/14 boys
Ryan Curry from the Brentwood Barracudas took home the high point trophy winning the 100-yard free, 50-yard free and 50-fly. Sean Jackson of the YMCA Piranhas took second place high points in this division and Chris Flessas from Westchester Lakes was awarded third place high points.
15 and up girls
Sara Jean Lane of Brentwood swam for first place in the 100-yard free, 100-yard individual medley and the 50-yard fly. Alyssa Hearn and Abby Miller both of Deer Run placed for second and third place high points respectively.
15 and up boys
Matthew Bennett of the Brentwood Barracudas received first place high points for his wins in the 50-yard free, 50-yard fly and 50-yard breaststroke. Dylan Weathersby of YMCA Piranhas was awarded second place high points and Alex Barrus of Westchester Wahoos took third place high points.
Relay events
The teams competed for wins with each swim team securing points to add to their team overall score. The Deer Run Dolphins 9/10 age group Relay A teams swept their relay races contributing first place scores for the Dolphins.

The overall team results awarded the Brentwood Barracudas with the third place team trophy. The Westchester Lake Wahoos earned the second place trophy. The Deer Run Dolphins took home the first place trophy, taking the title from the Covington YMCA who held the title for the previous few years.
The Rockdale Swim League is made up of swim teams associated with neighborhoods, subdivisions, or athletic clubs located within and around Rockdale County, Georgia. The intent of the Rockdale Swim League (RSL) is to provide a recreational summer swim program for children and youth ages five to 18 with an emphasis on enhancing individual swim techniques and strokes, water safety and sportsmanship.
